Worldwide trade in used dairy equipment: how Tim van Steenderen connects supply and demand

Since February, Tim van Steenderen has been part of the sales team at Used Dairy Equipment. With more than twenty years of experience in the international equipment trade, he knows how supply and demand come together across global markets. His focus is on so called as is machines: used machines that are immediately available for their next owner.

"What appeals to me about this work is the variety," Tim explains. "No two days are the same. One day you are selling an individual machine, the next you are working on a complete production line. On top of that, you work with customers all over the world."

A second life for valuable machines

Used Dairy Equipment offers used machines in different conditions. Some machines are completely refurbished. Tim focuses on as is machines: "These are machines that we purchase and clean, but do not refurbish. We then bring them back to the market. They are often still in good condition and can be put to use directly by another producer."

This approach fits with the principles of circularity that have been part of Used Dairy Equipment for many years. Machines that are no longer needed at one production site are given a second life with a new user.

An international market

Tim's market extends far beyond the Netherlands and Europe. Customers are located all over the world.

"We sell machines in Europe, North and South America and other parts of the world. Of course, some enquiries come from the region, but we also have customers who travel specifically to Lopik to inspect machines."

This international aspect makes the work interesting. Every market has its own requirements, challenges and possibilities.

From network to new opportunities

To find suitable machines, Used Dairy Equipment relies on an extensive network built up over several decades. The team also actively searches for available machines and production lines.

"Our purchasing department is in contact with companies every day. As a result, we often hear at an early stage when a machine becomes available. This knowledge and experience allow us to respond quickly."

According to Tim, this is one of the strengths of Used Dairy Equipment. "We have extensive market knowledge and a large international network. This enables us to assist both sellers and buyers quickly."

Experience as a foundation

Before joining Used Dairy Equipment, Tim worked in the international equipment trade for more than twenty years.

"That experience gives me a good understanding of what customers consider important. Ultimately, it comes down to trust. A customer needs to be confident that they are getting the right machine for their production process."

This combination of experience, market knowledge and a worldwide network helps Tim connect available machines with new users every day.

Tim's favourite moment? "When a machine that has been standing idle somewhere is put back into full use by another customer. That is when you know you have really added value."
